Challenge Family has officially confirmed its support of the Professional Triathlon Union (PTU), and today outlined its further commitment to improving standards for professional athletes.

From 1 January 2016 only PTU members will be permitted to compete at any Challenge Family event in the elite or professional category. Challenge Family is the first major triathlon organisation to actively pledge its support to the PTU and has made this move in the belief that the industry as a whole needs to come together to make real progress in the professionalisation of triathlon.

"I'm very excited to see the PTU launch today, this is what our sport needs; a unified voice for our pro athletes and professional body working with us to keep improving all aspects of our sport," said Challenge Family CEO, Zibi Szlufcik. "We have been working alongside these guys for the past eight months since Challenge Bahrain where we hosted the first Pro Athlete Forum and I'm proud that Challenge Family is taking the lead and pledging our support to the pros to lift industry standards. All of our licensees have also fully supported this initiative, and together with PTU we will implement a new entry process for the professionals in line with other systems to create an industry standard."

Challenge Family is committed to improving the standard of triathlon and supporting professional athletes standing for the betterment of the sport. It congratulates the PTU and founding board members who have worked so diligently, lead by Richard Allen over the past six months to bring this union together. Challenge Family look forward to working together with the PTU in effecting change towards more professional standards for triathlon.
