The .kiwi Tri Series gets underway at Mount Maunganui this weekend (Sunday) with the traditional season opening Craigs Investment Partners Tinman launching a new look and yet familiar series of triathlons that engage participants throughout the country.
Excitement is building on the back of yesterday's .kiwi Tri Series launch event in Auckland, with new naming rights partner .kiwi on board and news that new event delivery partner SMC Events has great plans for the six race series this summer.
Tri NZ CEO Craig Waugh says the summer is looking extremely bright for those in the triathlon community.
"There is a level of excitement that we haven't seen for some time around this series, with the announcement of .kiwi as naming rights partner, a stronger emphasis on the festival nature of these events and race distances and activities for the entire family, we are looking forward to a great summer in New Zealand's only national tri series.
"This series has grown consistently in recent years but the addition of SMC as our event delivery partner brings a new perspective and a fresh set of eyes on our events. We will have the same safe and highly efficient racing delivered by our team of technical officials and volunteers and the venues offer brilliant and varied racing conditions. SMC bring a wealth of event experience and with further activation from our sponsors and partners, the .kiwi Tri Series promises a more rounded family friendly experience."
The six events throughout summer offer a variety of race opportunities, from the 1:2:1 (100m swim, 2km ride, 1km run) for kids to the beginners 3:9:3 and a mix of sprint and standard distance race options. With team racing at most events, the opportunity is there for families, workmates, friends and even complete strangers to race together to share the workload but maximise the involvement.
The Craigs Investment Partners Tinman is the perfect introduction to the season. With its 25 year history (22 events), it sits proudly on the triathlon calendar in New Zealand and is the ideal time to welcome in the new summer at an idyllic holiday spot at Mount Maunganui.
Sunday mornings racing at 'The Mount' includes 1:2:1 for children, 3:9:3 for beginners or those looking for a gentle start to the season, sprint (750m, 20km bike, 5km run) and standard (1500m swim, 40km bike, 10km run) races, with team categories in sprint and standard.
Entries are accepted online until 5pm on Friday 6th December with late entries and registrations on Saturday afternoon at Pilot Bay from 3pm to 5pm.
