Team Shorebreak Inc Aquatic Sports and Triathlon Club will, host the Jennian Homes New Zealand Aquathlon Championships at Mount Maunganui on December 6 2013.
2013 marks the beginning of an exciting new sponsorship of this swim/run event by Jennian Homes. The Jennian Homes New Zealand Aquathlon Championships will be held at Pilot Bay, Mount Maunganui on Friday 6 December 2013. The course will include a run around the picturesque Mauao Base Track.
Two race distances are on offer. A 500m swim and 2.5km run for young participants aged between 11 and 15 years and the full 1km swim, 5km run for those 16 years and over.
Paratriathlon opportunities will be included in the race programme, which is an exciting chance for athletes with disabilities to show their skills in the Aquathlon event.
For those serious about their swim/run abilities, the stakes are high as this race doubles the selection event for the World Aquathlon Championships to be held in Edmonton, Canada as part of the World Triathlon Championships in September 2014.
Alternatively the event will also cater for those who simply wish to give the sport a go or perhaps ease their way into their 2013/14 summer of triathlon, with all comers welcome on the start line.
Triathlon New Zealand CEO Craig Waugh is looking forward to a new venue and the new support of Jennian Homes in a growing aspect of the sport.

The ITU recognises Aquathlon with a world championship race each year so it is only natural that we want to offer a well run event to act as our National Champs and qualifier for the World Championships. Team Shorebreak Inc indeed is very proud to have been selected by Triathlon NZ to host this event and will join with local event manager Sheryl McLay of Shorebreak Aquatics Ltd to deliver a high quality national championships.

Participants and families will be able to make a weekend of it, by also taking part in the Craigs Investment Partners Tinman Triathlon. This popular and long standing event kicks off the Tri NZ Tri Series for the summer on Sunday 8 December, 2013, creating a great weekend to make the most of all that 'The Mount' has to offer.
