Swimmers contemplating dipping their toes into the water for Auckland's State Harbour Crossing on 2 December should register sooner rather than later.

Organisers are predicting an early cut off date for registrations for the first time in the history of this iconic event, due to record numbers of registrations.
State NZ Ocean Swim Series Event Director, Scott Rice says, "We're thrilled with the fantastic response from Kiwis and international visitors alike, all keen to challenge themselves with the 2.9km crossing. We want to ensure that everyone has a really positive experience. Safety is always our top priority and for that reason we have decided to cap the number of swimmers at 1500. We are closely monitoring entries and expect to cut off registrations in the week prior to the swim."
Surf Life Saving New Zealand are coordinating safety for the event. Life Saving Services and Education Manager Andy Kent is delighted to be involved in the event as safety providers and as the recipient charity.
"We never hesitate to be involved in the State NZ Ocean Swim Series. It's always well run and safety is their first priority. It also provides us with the opportunity to raise funds for our organisation. Last year the series raised $8000. We're hoping to top that significantly this year and the work Scott and his team have done getting a high number of registrations is fantastic - the more people involved the better," he added.
