Cyclists of all abilities will be getting amongst some of Canterbury's finest scenery during Le Race, New Zealand's answer to the Tour de France, on Saturday 31 March.
The annual 100km cycle race between Christchurch and Akaroa is back to its original date after it was held in October last year due to the February earthquake.
Christchurch City Council Recreation and Sports Unit Manager John Filsell says this year is all about getting new people to give it a go.
"We're supporting the event with a special offer for Cantabrians. If they get a friend from outside of Christchurch to enter Le Race for the first time, then their entry is free.
"This event is a great way for people to get fit in the New Year – particularly for those who have indulged in some comfort eating over the past 18 months! It's also a chance to get back to a sense of normality by taking part in something familiar and unique to Christchurch."
Also in support of the event, Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre will be hosting Elite Road National Champion Michael Vink during a special Spin class 6.30pm next Wednesday 15 February. He will be leading the class in a training session for newcomers and experienced Le Race participants alike.

Entry for Le Race is $95 (for individuals) and is open until the end of March. There are also two and three person team entries.
