A high tide this week made running conditions difficult. Competitors were bunched in closely to the shoreline making for tight racing. But the conditions didn't hinder Tara La Grange's performance as she crossed the line 1st in 21m 46s for her 11th straight win in the event. La Grange said after the race "It was a bit harder with softer sand but it was good." Jessie Eichmann jumped the ladder three spots from last week to finish second with Lesley Ryan in third.
In the men's 5km run Nick Sutherland ran a strong race to shut out last week's winner Shaun Bowyer, in a time of 19m 5s. Finn Mason ran in second ahead of Shaun Bowyer.
With only six weeks left to quality for the 2012 London Olympics, Steven Kent showed strong form. He won the 1km ocean swim convincingly in 11m 54s, with North shore youngster Jackson Cropp in second and Sean Newcombe third. In the women's race NZ surf lifesaver Kirsty Wannan clinched her 7th win in 12mins 27" with Anna Jackson closely behind in second and Brenda Russell third.
Olympic hopeful Steven Fergusson was a clear winner in the Surf ski paddle event while Dene Simpson took out the women's race ahead of Rachael Dodwell in 30m 9s
NZ Stand Up paddler Jeremy Stephenson made a this week after finishing fourth last week to take out the 3km stand up paddle event in a smart time of 18mins 27". Troy McAsey came in second ahead of Troy Huston. In the women's race, NZ paddler Annabel Anderson backed up her win from last week finishing well ahead of the field in 19m 10s; after the race Anderson said "this is what gets me fit."
