Two brand new bicycles will be among the spot prizes up for grabs at the inaugural Crawshaw Duathlon this Sunday, 13 November at Crawshaw Park.
A joint initiative between Hamilton City Council, Sport Waikato and Crawshaw School, the duathlon was the brainchild of Council Youth Advisor Ani Nock and Community Advisor Ioana Manu who wanted to help encourage Crawshaw families to be active together.
Council Community Development Manager Olly Te Ua said: "Rather than being competitive, the Crawshaw Duathlon is all about participation – it is a chance for families to spend time together while doing something fun and active."
Participants can opt to enter in the first event at 10.20am which is a 2km walk or run, 1.6km bike ride (two laps around Crawshaw Park) and 1.2km walk or run; or the second event at 10.25am which is a 2km walk or run. Participants can also choose to complete just one leg of the event, such as the bike ride. Those taking part in the bike ride must supply their own bike and helmet.
Registrations for the events will be taken on the day. Participants should assemble at the Crawshaw School Tennis Courts at 10am.
Entry is by a gold coin fee, with all money raised going to Christmas in Crawshaw in December.
