Sand To Surf - Mt. Maunganui
This is what ocean swimming is all about – taking the plunge in summer at one of New Zealand’s best destination surf beaches. Playing host to national surf and surf life saving competitions, the Mount’s Main Beach is the perfect location to test your ocean swimming skills in the surf conditions in the Sand to Surf, the first of seven events in the Banana Boat New Zealand Ocean Swim Series.
Consisting of four different swim events, the Sand to Surf provides an ocean swim event for all ages and abilities:
- ‘I’m Going Long’ - a 2.6km swim off the Main Beach, around Motuotau and Moturiki Islands.
- ‘Step it Up’ - a 1km swim off the Main Beach, an achievable distance for individuals with swimming experience.
- ‘Give it a Go’ - a 500m swim off the Main Beach, a great introduction to open water swimming.
- 'Banana Boat OceanKids' 200m - a swim for children aged between 7-12 years old, consisting of a 200m shallow water swim along the Main Beach shore line, lined with Surf Life Saving NZ guards.
